The mission of the Utah Professionals in the Student Involvement and Leadership is to advance:

  • Understanding of issues impacting students and the student affairs professionals

  • The abilities to better meet the diverse and changing needs of our institutions, and the students we serve

  • Communication of professional knowledge and standards in the field of Student Involvement and Leadership

  • Opportunities for education and professional development

  • Collaboration with Student Involvement and Leadership state-wide​

Our Story

Our organization has been in operation in Utah since the mid-1980's. It began in the 1980's as a group of advisors who sought to enhance student leadership, clubs, funding and student scholarships for colleges and universities across the state of Utah. In 1990, student life advisors officially requested it become Utah Professionals in Student Activities (UPSA). By 1994, Spring Drive-ins became the Utah Leadership Academy where meetings were held in July and January for educational institutions across the state of Utah to network and enhance professional development within their areas. 

The organization continued to expand and was renamed Utah Professionals in Student Involvement and Leadership (UPSIL). The organization continues today to help Utah professionals in Student Involvement & Leadership network and build on their programs, best practices, and office structures.
